  1. Some traits of the main characters, Bryce and Juli, are: For Juli, “She didn’t just barge into my life, she barged and shoved and wedged her way into my life.” (1) Which shows that Bryce thought she was nosy and “Every time I looked outside, I could see Juli Showing off in her yard,” (6) which shows that Bryce thought she was trying to impress him. For Bryce, Juli explains that “sitting next to Bryce was nice. He was nice. He’d say ‘Hi, Juli’ to me every morning, and once in a while I’d catch him looking my way. He’d always blush and go back to his own work.” (18) This shows that Juli thought that Bryce was friendly. When Bryce went outside to throw away the eggs that Juli had given him, Juli saw and asked why. Bryce lied, “Did you drop them,” Juli Asked. “Yeah. . . Yeah, and I’m really sorry about that,” Bryce lied. (78)

  3. The author describes the main characters throughout the book with dialogue and events. The author shows Juli as a loving, sensitive, and daring person. One place where the author reveals this is when the sycamore tree, that she is very affectionate towards, gets cut down, and she becomes very sensitive about it (39-42). Another example of Juli's character being revealed is when she meets her Uncle David, when she becomes very affectionate towards him and wants him to be part of her family (137). On the other hand, Bryce is shown as handsome-looking on the outside, but does not care to see a person on the inside, and often does not show respect towards the people that care for him, like Juli. An example of where this is revealed is when he refuses to climb the tree with Juli because he thought that it was not his problem (25).

  4. Juli in the beginning of the book was outgoing and crazy and loved Bryce but now things start changing between them. Her characteristics start changing because of what happened with the eggs. She starts to not even want to look or talk to him because she is so mad at him. Bryce hated Juli when he first met her but he is now trying to say sorry and he is trying to force himself to do whatever it takes to make it up to her. He thinks he is a jerk and should have done it a long time ago but he didn’t.
